Downward Facing Dog - Adho Mukha Svanasana
I had to start with down dog right?! From this week on, the poses will not be in any kind of order at all, but I definitely wanted to start with this fundamental posture. I have a lot of thoughts on down dog. While I know it's taught in nearly every beginners class, I do not think it is a simple pose. In fact, I consider it one of the hardest poses to teach and also one of the most difficult to know if you're in correct alignment.
Most common student comment on down dog?
"I never feel like I'm doing it right"
SO TRUE. There are many elements to this posture and I could explain it, but it's been done by many people who are much more articulate. Here's a great video from Ekhart Yoga:
Try down dog...and don't worry if you're doing it "right" or "wrong." It basically comes down to breathing and getting a long spine.
