Let's be real. Yoga can be ridiculous.
If you've been to my classes, you kind of know how I feel about this. If not, let me lay it out for you: I don't think everyone needs to do yoga. Do I think a lot of people would feel better if they did? Probably, but who knows really.
Like I always say in my classes, "Don't get down that you can't do some crazy pose. When are you EVER going to have to do this stuff in your daily life?"
I don't know anyone who has accidentally found themselves in side crow.
Yoga can be a lot of different things. It is a moving meditation, an insane workout, physical therapy, relaxation, a dance, and one of the best examples there is of delayed gratification. If you want to do side crow, than you must work at it...for a long time.
However, yoga can also be completely and utterly ridiculous. The fancy photos (of which I'm totally guilty of taking) are super fun, inspiring, and totally bizarre. I love Instagram, but come on, we all know it's a little weird. Weird or not, I'm so grateful for it because I've met so many great people and have learned quite a bit.
I've been adding the hashtag #yogarealtalk, along with some real words, tips, and tricks to my Instagram posts. I invite all the yogis who read to follow along: what poses are hard for you? Why are they hard? What are the little things that make them tolerable?
One local insta-friend that is brilliant at this is @the_southern_yogi. She shares the struggles along with the victories in her practice and it's great!
