Is there anything better than a japanese maple in the fall? Mom's is looking beautiful right now. Ours is not quite as red, but still love looking at it every day. We're thinking about planting another in front of the house -- just can't get enough.
How about those elections last night? Last night voters chose 2 new Democratic governors, 2 black lieutenant governors, 2 transgender officials, a Black Lives Matter lawyer as DA in Philly, a Sikh mayor in Hoboken, a socialist in Virginia, to oust GOP mayor in Atlantic City, and to expand Medicaid in Maine.
Hell yes. If this is a preview of 2018, I'm more than excited. Every member of the GOP that continues to support Trump's racist, nationalist ideology will only embolden individuals such as these who won last night. It gives Dems permission to run on a truly progressive platform and I couldn't be happier. Charlotte, NC elected its first black female mayor, Manchester, NH elected its first female mayor.
Feels so good.
In other news, I am off Instagram for personal use. You can still follow the studio and NWM. Just like when I left Facebook, I have felt little to no regret whatsoever. It is just gone. I feel lighter. I can still reach all the people I want to keep up with, but am not contributing to a toxic social media landscape. Nothing is all bad of course and social media is miraculous in many ways, but for me and my little life, it doesn't feel needed on the personal level. I want to read more, focus on the now, and forget where my phone is on the regular.
Also, given the recent revelations on Russian interference via social media, I'm not sure I want to be a part of it. It is necessary in some ways and not in others. It's time I start walking the walk and not just talking the talk.
Thanks to all for reading, have a great Wednesday!
