one month old

How?! When!? WHAT?!

Simon is a month old today. It seems like he was born yesterday and a year ago all at the same time.

We're getting the hang of this thing more and more every day. He is quite the guy.

QUICK TAKEAWAYS AFTER A MONTH...

the lack of sleep is not as bad as everyone says it is

the hormone crash following birth is worse than anyone says it is

breastfeeding was not worth it for me

the Bagel boys loud barking has little to no effect on him...thank god

my house has never been cleaner and laundry has never been this caught up.

obsessive freezer cooking is beyond worth it -- we are still eating well from my stash

didn't know it was possible, but I love Andrew about 10x more than I did a month ago

ESSENTIAL BABY ITEMS

Like almost everyone says, you don't need half of what you think, but there have been a few things that I wouldn't want to be without...

1) HALO Sleep Sack Swaddle

Not only is this ridiculously fun to say over and over, it also works wonders for swaddling at night. The velcro flaps are, in essence, a straightjacket for your baby. Keeps him tightly swaddled, which he likes, and you don't have to worry about blanket coming undone and suffocating baby. WIN!

2) Ubbi wipes dispenser with weighted plate

Pure frustration = desperately trying to get wipes out of their plastic pack with one hand and accidentally pulling out half the pack, which means you have to shove them all back in and then the next time you need one...look out! This dispenser is great --- I thought it unnecessary before S was born so I didn't buy it, but quickly realized it was much needed.

3) Marpac DOHM All Natural White Noise sound machine

We have used this at night only, every night, starting the first night home from the hospital. Simon is also a great sleeper at night. Of course he still wakes up 2-3 times for feedings, but he goes right back to sleep and stays asleep for at least 3 hours. Do we know if the sound machine is responsible? No, but we're not willing to find out. It's been great!

4) Fisher-Price Rock-n-Play

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everyone says you got to have this and they are right. It's super handy.

5) A serious hand lotion, I'm using Aveda Hand Relief

It's winter. I'm washing my hands after every diaper change and a bunch of other times a day. To say that my hands have been dry would be a gross understatement.

And honestly...that's all I can think of that has been truly necessary (other than diapers, wipes, and food obviously...ha). You don't need much...at all!

Of course, I also recommend healthy amounts of chocolate, wine, lasagna, beer, and soup.
