I apologize if you come to this blog to escape politics, but I can't not write about this today.
What's happening in our country right now is a disaster for both the Constitution, the democratic process, and the American people who value equality, diversity, human rights, and their right to healthcare.
The president is a racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, lying lunatic who is scared to death he's about to get caught cheating.
This week has been particularly demoralizing. His speech to the Boy Scouts, his speech in Youngstown, his ban on transgender individuals serving in the military. And on top of Trump's antics, we have a GOP that is insistent on ignoring their constituents. Healthcare is a right, not a privilege.
I know it's very tempting to bury your head in the sand because it gets too depressing, confusing, or you feel helpless. Please don't do that. Keep reading things and stay informed so that we can protect those around us when (not if) they are threatened. If you've been calling your reps, keep calling. If you haven't yet, start now.
I never want to generalize, but at this point in time I feel I have no choice. If you support Trump, you support racism, bigotry, cruelty, stupidity, lying, hatred towards women, authoritarianism, and irrational behavior in regards to nuclear weapons. If you're not worried, you're not paying attention.
Thank you to all for your work and keep it up. If you are a local reader and want to get involved, join me on August 7th at this event.
And if you want a more articulate summary of exactly how I feel right now, read this op-ed from Charles Blow in the NYTimes.
