photo 3 (1)2013 was pretty great. The studio kept growing, Andrew found a great job (despite a longer commute...thank god for Audible),  I made multiple trips to Asheville, completed all five of my resolutions, and I actually completed a weekly photo wrap up. Click here for snapshots of all 52 weeks of this year. Yeah I used my phone camera for most of the photos, but at least I did it! Other big highlights of the year: my brother had a baby! And he's about the sweetest thing ever!

We bought 8 acres of woods!

I can actually work on headstand now!

As I continue to keep this blog, I realize more and more it's for me as much as anyone else reading. And the more I realize that, the more readers I seem to acquire! I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to keep it going, but right now, I still love sharing bits and pieces of my life and some of my favorite stuff.

My year in months can be seen through Instagram photos:

January February March April May June July August September October November December

2013 was a great year for new music...I always love looking back through my seasonal, dumping ground playlists:

With 2013 officially closed, it's time to get excited for all the excellent things ahead in 2014!

Possible vacations, a double dose of Christina Sell workshops, another new niece/nephew (Andrew's side this time), Winter Olympics, and I'm sure much more that I don't even expect.

Thank you so much for reading this blog!

My internets...Google's 2013 and a favorite blog

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv-sY_z8MNs&w=640&h=390] I always enjoy Google's Zeitgeist video at the end of the year. This year is no exception.

Also, one of my favorite blogs, Be Up and Doing, from twitter gal pal Allie Lehman, had a brilliant idea for a post this week. She went back through her search history and the last 21 things she's googled...brave and so funny. Read the list here...my favorite is #9!

I love Allie's blog. She's relatively close in Columbus, Ohio and it's so fun to read a great blog that is based in the Midwest! She is also in her late twenties, married without kids, and has a dog..., so I can relate. Beautiful photos and creative posts. Love it.

39 books in 2013...maybe

I did it! I completed my initial goal of 30 books in 2013. While I did not get at least six read in the Jane Duncan series, I feel ecstatic I was able to exceed for goal by nine books....almost...

I am currently working on these three:

I am determined to finish by December 31st...I know I can! I'm almost there on The Goldfinch...really enjoying that one! My Friend Annie should go quick quick, it's the massive tome that is Matterhorn that will take me a bit. Wish me luck!

Speaking of books, I have book club this afternoon where we will have our annual Christmas burning. I plan to burn one of my student loan bills...because that stuff is gone! I'm even more excited for tonight...Andrew and I are celebrating our anniversary with dinner at Milkwood...mmmmmm

2013-11-28 11.18.41 Well I'm so exhausted I can barely type this...we had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my family today. My parents hosted across the street...couldn't get any better. Food was phenomenal, tables were beautiful with my great grandmother's china on one, my grandmother's on the other.

Andrew's passed out with the dogs on the couch, I'm staring blankly watching Harry Potter movies (with commercials!?!) on ABC Family...I think this is a sign that I need to go to bed. Family still in town for a couple days and we have another Tgives to attend on Saturday! All I know is that I'm headed downstairs to do some seriously needed yin yoga and then it's sleepy time.

Feeling grateful for pretty everything right now...life is really good, I can't complain. Many thanks to you for reading.

October 2013

2013-10-30_1383160084 Things I learned in October:

1. 16 year olds are capable making great music. 2. zero Gravity would suuuuuck 3. Thomas Keller makes some sweet treats 4. 12 hours of Iyengar workshop + six hour drive home = pulled lower back muscles. 5. A cast iron skillet is a great purchase 6. Jen Kirkman...she's a breath of fresh fo sho. 7. We paid off grad school this month...like, as in we no longer have any graduate school loans to pay. AHHHHHHHHHHHH 8. And two days later, our offer on 8 acres of woods was accepted and paperwork has been signed, turned into the bank! After six months of tedious considering, it's done! Let's get to pinning the house ideas shall we?!?! 9. I didn't just learn this in October, but I realized it even more: I LOVE teaching yoga. 10.nail polish does not need to be in my house...went on a purge--tossed it all.

a good feeling

2013-10-16_1381958994Yesterday, we made the final payment on our graduate school loans. Ahhhhhhhhh....that's me breathing a sigh of relief. We didn't have an insurmountable amount, but it was something for sure. Both Andrew and I absolutely hate having any debt, so it was tough to borrow the money in the first place. While it has been a great thing professionally for Andrew, I have yet to reap any financial benefits from my master's in modern & contemporary literature...who knew?!?! Haha, just kidding.

However, when we initially took out out loans, I knew it was just as much for the experience of living in Edinburgh, Scotland than for the education. It was a wonderful year for us. I value my education very much, but if we hadn't lived there, who knows if I would have found yoga. It was in Edinburgh that I started practicing seriously and discovered ashtanga. Big, big thank you to Bristo Yoga Studio, now Meadowlark Yoga for giving me a fantastic start in the practice.

Andrew and I made a promise to one another...that we would do everything in our power to have it paid off before we turned thirty. Well, I turn 29 next month--finished a whole year early! Woohoo! We've made many conscious decisions, big and small, that made it possible: no car payments, no cell phone contracts (plug for Virgin Mobile...prepaid smartphones rock my world), renting a small house instead of buying, shopping consignment and IKEA for clothes, furniture, etc, and going vegetarian at home has made a bit of a difference too. Things are good and I'm proud of us.

Also, I want to share this wonderful time-lapse tour of Louisville from Eric Stemen of videobred.  [vimeo http://vimeo.com/76161556]

This video makes me so glad to live back in Kentuckiana during this exciting time for Louisville. Each year we've been back, it gets more and more vibrant.

right on track...

Well, it's June. That means we're pretty much halfway through 2013...(WHA!?!?!?!?!?!)

Checking in with these resolutions.

Three out of five are done and done. Yay! I'm on track to finish my reading goal of at least 30 books--I've read the books pictured above...some great, some truly awful. And I am trying...again, emphasis on trying, to conquer my fear of inversions in yoga. Little by little, it's coming along...

My favorite music of 2013...so far

This post is inspired by my anticipation of All Songs Considered's Best of, So Far show. This episode always pops up in June and I love it. These albums are my favorite of the year so far. Wanna listen to them? Here's the playlist on SpotifyOh and if you don't have Spotify yet...Get it now. I still argue that along with Wikipedia and Twitter, it's one of the most amazing things on the internet.
