just checking in

20140305-201809.jpg Yeah. So I'm writing this from my Wordpress app on iPad. Just took this photo with said iPad. Wearing my favorite old baggy sweater with baggy old leggings. Watching Survivor, drinking Charles Shaw, and listening to Andrew talk about Hot Wheels at some museum...this is real life.

Feeling a little stumped on blogging lately...things seem to be moving a little fast and I'm having a tough time finding things worthy enough to blog. Any ideas? Anyone still there? What's making your days fun lately?

I feel like there is a considerable drought of new music lately...However, I am enjoying GIRLS and True Detective on HBO...and I'm getting insanely excited about a number of trips and fun things planned for spring. I think everyone around me (including me) is in a holding pattern until the weather stops being a brat. I'm just waiting and hopefully my little blog hasn't been too boring! Ha!

More later...cheers y'all!

life is better with...this new podcast

I recently found a great new podcast. Three  intelligent ladies talking TV?!?! YES PLEASE! Fair warning...if you do not watch cable/prestige tv, this is probably not in your wheelhouse. But I do and I LOVE it!

These ladies are fantastic. I discovered it via one of my favorite twitter friends,  Britt Julious. She and two others, Alison Cuddy and Leah Pickett have great discussions regarding current television. However, what I especially like about this podcast is that the given opinions are fully fleshed out with attention to broader cultural, literary, and cinematic impact. Unlike some pop culture podcasts I listen to...that is all...

Anyways, here's the link, their podcast Changing Channels  is part of WBEZ Chicago. Listen to it.

All-Time Greatest: TV

10tv Entertainment Weekly has been extra fun lately. With its new 100 All-Time Greatest issue, they have put out some definitive, "All-Time Greatest" lists of books, movies, tv, music, and style. I love me a good top ten list! And of course whenever I see anyone else's lists, I feel inspired to make my own.

Here are my ten "all-time greatest" of television in order:

10. Friday Night Lights

9. Curb Your Enthusiasm 8. LOST 7.  Arrested Development 6. Freaks and Geeks 5. The Mary Tyler Moore Show

4. Breaking Bad

3. Sex and the City

2. Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends

1. Mad Men

Please note: This list has been made without having watched The Wire or The Sopranos. We are about to start the latter.

life is better with...tami taylor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=vihYkEAQ_DY If you follow me on twitter, you probably have noticed that I've been gorging myself on Friday Night Lights. I'm about to start season four and omg. I can't even talk about it I love it so much. Tami Taylor? Flawless. Coach Taylor? Perfect. Matt Saracen and Tim Riggins? Favorites.

I know I'm about five or so years late to the party, but I don't care. I love this show.

too much to do

I want to ask the question: how is it possible to be bored these days?

There is so much I want to do, read, see, make, eat, drink, watch, that at the end of every day I am left wishing I had a few hours.

I love this show and want to finish it, but also have this show and my favorite show ever starting back and I have still never seen The Wire, which let's face it, I know I'm missing out big time.

I am reading this book, but also have another bookclub selection, and some books for work that I'd like to read...Not to mention the long awaited My Friend series that always just sits around waiting...

Then I get really overwhelmed when I start thinking about all the classes I want to do here...then I would also love to get back into running...then I would also love to cook every recipe on Sprouted Kitchen, Shutterbean, andhere.

Oh and I would also like to this restaurant, go to the Louisville Science Center to see this exhibit

PLUS......I would love to plan/go on a vacation, take more photos, more motorcycle rides, blog posts to write, blogs to read, cocktails to make, yoga workshops to attend, and ETC, ETC, ETC, ETC.

I love how accessible things are these days and how much Louisville has changed since I last lived here. There are too many options and I love it...but it kinda makes my head want to pop off...please tell me I'm not alone?!?!

Oh wait...I guess I also have to work too....

Happy Friday Y'all!

20130308-063912.jpg20130308-064119.jpg20130308-064143.jpg20130308-064157.jpg I think these GIRLS paper dolls from Vulture are amazing. I loved paper dolls as a kid and Vulture never disappoints:

However, I am happy to announce that I have stopped watching HBO's GIRLS. I realized that the anger it incites in me is not healthy and all the elements I enjoyed last season have virtually disappeared this season. In short....Enlightened > GIRLS.

Ready for the weekend...like, whoa. It was a tough week at work full of standardized testing...kids stressed, staff stressed.

Family from out of town arriving on Sunday. Can't wait!

Favorite Watches of 2012

Like this poster? Breaking Bad? Anyone? Typically, I have a somewhat irrational hatred for these "Keep Calm and..." posters, but this one made me smile.

My favorite television and movies of 2012. Of course please keep in mind that I have not seen Les Miserables yet (going with whole fam on Christmas Day! So excited!)

Life of Pi

Nashville (ABC)

Breaking Bad (AMC)

Girls (HBO) I seriously have a love-hate relationship with this show. Regardless of things I don't like about it, it is very well executed and does great things with music.

Mad Men (AMC)

Can you tell that I still think television is far better than movies these days?

my gal pal round-up of living ladies to look up to

Happy Tuesday Y'all! I have Wednesday-Friday off, so it's my Friday. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

In addition, I have something to say about us ladies.

There was such a strong emphasis on the importance of "women" in this election. I put the word in quotations because I will never understand referring to 51% of the world's population as a special interest group. And, as a lady who does not find weddings particularly interesting, does not wear makeup, and  does not have babies, a lot of target marketing and media is lost on me.

Here's who I look to:

Tina Fey

Terry Gross

Claire Danes

Ellen Degeneres

Joan Didion

Joy the Baker For more sane lady talk, I also recommend:

The Hairpin Jezebel Slate's DoubleX SmartLadiesLoveStuff

I'll be back a bunch this week with some fun stuff - yay for a work break + Thanksgiving + my birthday + wedding anniversary!

rainy mondays

again, the weather on the weekend was flawless and it started raining on Monday morning. Third week in a row!?! I kinda love it. I take Mondays off from yoga and I don't have to teach after work so I have been using these rainy autumn afternoons to catch up on my tv (uhhh like this show, and today this, and this).

Oh and speaking of watching stuff, go see Looper! Saw it this weekend and was blown away--sooooo good. JGL never fails me.

Happy Friday Y'all!

Friday! Again!

o.m.g. it's already September 14th...

Another week flies by again and this weekend brings an unexpected potential trip to Cincinnati  IKEA....boom dig.

Highlights of my week?

1) realizing that I pretty much love my new job and think it's going to be a great fit for quite awhile (yay!)

2) enjoying some homemade skinnygirl marg w/ mint & cucumber...only a limited amount of time left before fall!

3) mastering the fishtail braid -- thank you young lady on youtube!

4) reading this book...so good.

oh what a wonderful weekend

wow--I know it's already Tuesday, but I just have to talk about my wonderful weekend. The weather was beyond beyond beyond--had the windows open all weekend. Nothing particularly crazy happened but oh it was wonderful.

Saturday: teaching some great yoga classes, walking dogs, bookclub outside with wine, having my parents over for lasagna, then we worked on our jigsaw puzzle while drinking and playing cards--so fun!

Sunday: big yoga practice, cleaning and laundry while watching Real Housewives of New York (Aviva be crazy!! And I'm worshiping Carole this season), porch sitting at Rach's with loads of spinach dip + big slices of chocolate cake, reading, meatloaf dinner at the parents w/ Kaylex, followed by an evening sitting out by the fire pit.

Ahhhh it was so great! Evidence here in instagram photos:

Life is better with....brainpickings.org

I would never ever have found brainpickings if it were not for the overwhelming enthusiasm from @leahslag -- THANKS for the tip on this one Mom!

I cannot write enough great things about this website. If you love books, music, film, art, television, etc, but especially books, GO NOW.

Some of the greatest features include a literary jukebox, lots & lots of fun lists of books, an amazingly interactive bookshelf, and more inspiration than one's brain can handle. I always leave to go pick up a book and get cracking!

Go now--your life will be a little better. I promise.

guilty pleasures: summer 2012

summer is almost over (thank god). Despite the horrendous heat, I had a pretty great one. started up the studio, got a new job (that didn't start until over a month later...!!!), brought home an adorable new doggy, and watched the olympics like a boss.

unfortunately, I also enjoyed a few things that I am not so proud of. 1 of which can be observed in the photos above...I basically quit brushing my hair this summer...it has happened before, i just haven't had long hair in awhile. i'll own it. hey, i am the person who didn't pack a hair brush for a study abroad summer in spain...

as usual, every season brings a new batch of guilty pleasures. here are some of mine for summer 2012:

The CW's docu-series, Breaking Pointe

if you didn't watch this short lived (only 6 episodes long) reality saga, i'm sorry for you. chronicling behind the scenes drama at Ballet West in Salt Lake City, this series is chock full of dance rehearsal footage--one of my fave things!

Magic Mike

any explanation needed? didn't think so... However, I think it was more hoopla than anything that made this such fun.

Trader Joe's Triple Ginger Snaps + a jar of Nutella + a knife

....ohhhh boy.

The Bachelorette

....TEAM JEF WITH 1 F! i called him from episode one...god, this show(s) is terrible...why can't I stop watching it?!?! really does make me wonder about myself.

glad to have this all behind me...bring on fall!

Happy Friday Y'all! March 30, 2012

Wow--cannot believe March is almost over. have been a little blogging-tweeting slacker this week, lots going on at work with all of the new "corporate" training.

makes my coworkers and I do this kind of thing a lot:

doing some porch sitting w/ gal pals tonight, yoga all day tomorrow, BIG GAME tomorrow night, then a restful Sunday ahead for me.

How about you?!?

now I'm off to get a little yoga in before heading back to the office.....

I've made a huge mistake...

Things I initially got wrong.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=SP_9zH9Q44o] Boy, Fox sure got it wrong with one of the best shows ever.

By this I mean I was annoyingly contrary for a little while, but after more contemplation, I am now annoyingly in favor!

Honestly, I don't often admit I am wrong (ask my husband), but here I am, saying it out loud:

I WAS WRONG about...

Twitter iPad cowboy boots french door freezers -- I want one! (current state of my freezer...jam packed and an unorganized mess!)

What are things that you have initially disliked?
