a stream of consciousness, internet surfing blog post

2014-07-01 16.37.29 Waiting. Closing on Wednesday...waiting to move. Trying to busy myself with going to yoga classes and doing laundry while drinking beer. Just got back from eating Mexican food and drinking margaritas at local El Nop, now nursing a glass of Charles Shaw chardonnay....these are my thoughts:

Question: what's up with microbreweries putting everything in cans now? Is this the thing? Not sure if I approve...

Loving Bon Iver's new song for the Wish I Were Here soundtrack:

I just found photos of the Full House cast having fun at Dave Coulier's wedding while listening to that song: .

Also catching up on some blog reading...Can we please talk about how much I love the photography print by Gray Malin (no, not because we have the same weird first name) that hangs over the couch of Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere? I really love his prints...like, a lot.

While trying to ignore the sounds of firecrackers being set off outside the house, I'm now blasting this song:

While looking for some new house decor (seriously, I need to think of something else) on Pinterest, I just came across this photograph on my feed:

And then this? Say whaaaaa?!

Oh Pinterest....

And on that note, I've got to get up at 4:30am tomorrow to teach yoga....I KNOW.

I love how dedicated my students are...really, I do! HA!

See y'all

happy friday!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JxfgId3XTs] 100 years of fashion in 100 seconds. Love this!

Sitting enjoying my coffee is cozy pajamas. We have a two hour delay at work...planning on doing a little bit of yoga, doing some reading, then heading out. Another big weekend at the studio full of class + workshop. I still cannot believe all the new faces I've seen this month---big thank you to all!

**just got a call that school is now cancelled....snow day it is!! YEEEEEEEEEEEE!

life is better with...katie rodgers

Katie Rodgers is a fashion illustrator...website: PaperFashion.net. I Love her. I'm a sucker for fashion illustration in general, but holy cow these are great. I absolutely love this print: And this one: I'm also in love with her Instagram account. She posts a ton of pictures of illustration and her creative process.

And how adorable is this?

life is better with...

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m7PebGS304&feature=player_detailpage] Drinking coffee and watching some of fashion week this morning. I'm not real big into fashion, but I do love watching the shows online. Loving this Fall 2013 collection from Mara Hoffman. Prints seem to catch my eye always.

Also just remembered that the Grammys are on tonight. Should be fun to watch the twitterverse while watching.

Happy Friday and some life in an instagram

It's so hot here. baaaaaaaahhhhhhh. It's making me a little loopy.

Andrew has been working from home all week, it's been nice. After finishing this, we are now officially addicted to this. We love to watch one show a night with dinner and because summer is a bit of a TV desert, it has been a lot of fun to have new series.

OH and guess what local readers?!? We officially open for students here at Yoga on Capitol Avenue tomorrow!! WOOHOO! Please contact me if you have questions. All info is available here.

In other news, I went a little instagram crazy this week. Follow me @graylinsample

The Burning House

I found The Burning House last year, forgot about it, then stumbled back across it recently. Such a cool idea! It's a tumblr that features submissions from people all over the world, photographing the items they would save if their house was burning.

Of course I had to make my own:

My list:

  • teddy bear I gave to my Grandmother at age three--she returned it right before she died seven years ago
  • framed origami heart out of The Beatles, "All You Need is Love." sheet music. Purchased at street fair in Notting Hill
  • Autographed, first edition copy of Jeffrey Eugenides' novel, The Virgin Suicides. My favorite book.
  • crab ashtray--once belonged to my Grandmother
  • a Baywatch Barbie tumbler--beloved shared keepsake of my aunt Lis and I
  • Frye Harness Boots -- olive green
  • yoga mat
  • iPad
  • whale paperweight --once belonged to my grandmother
  • journal containing lists, ideas, drawings, and moments I don't want to forget throughout the years

What would you save?

some summer essentials

In my opinion, every season requires a few special things in order to fully enjoy it. Such as pumpkin-spiced  flavored candles and coffee drinks in the fall and gløgg in the winter. Here are a random eight of my summer must-haves:

Kuhn Rikon Corn Zipper -- discovered this last year. I know it's sacrilege around these parts to eat off the cob, but I'm sorry, this just makes it too easy.

The true test of a great summer? The intensity of your Chaco tanlines. Needless to say, Andrew and I don't need more pairs, but how amazing are these?!?!?!

Fruit. The more the better.

Books. But for me, it must be a certain kind of book. Well-written and preferably literary fiction, but still entertaining enough that it works at the pool or while swinging on the porch. These are some good examples...except for the Gilman one...it's probably just pure entertainment.

Avocado. And I just discovered this, which I need in my house right now.

Color!

Crisp and cold white wine. Thank god I really like the Charles Shaw Sauvignon Blanc so I can have a little bit every night!

A stoop/porch for some quality sittin' and drinking the above.

Ready for summer! Things I could do without? The dreaded high temps, the possibility of wearing a swimsuit, and mosquito bites.

Listen to this!

I'm so excited to start this new series. I plan to blog my top five shows each week...podcast/public radio-wise. For anyone who knows me "in real life," they can attest that I am a bit of a NPR/podcast-aholic.

I want this series to be almost like a weekly digest--the best of the week.

So...this week if you need something to listen to while folding laundry, I suggest clicking the following little purple links:

"The High Cost of Cheap Fashion" On Point with Tom Ashbrook -- June 6, 2012 Interview with Elizabeth Cline, author of the new book Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion

"'Obama's Secret Wars' Against America's Threats" Fresh Air with Terry Gross -- June 4, 2012 Interview with David Sanger, who has written a new book about Obama's approach to foreign policy.

"There's No Such Thing as a Sold-Out Concert (Even for Justin Bieber)" All Things Considered -- June 4, 2012

"Assessing Consumer Concerns About the Meat Industry" Fresh Air with Terry Gross -- June 7, 2012 Interview with Tom Philpott, agricultural journalist for Mother Jones

"An Exploration of Strange Creatures" NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour -- June 8, 2012 This is always a must-listen, but I particularly enjoyed this week's episode...mainly due to the mention of Carly Rae Jepsen.

So, there you have it!

I'll be back next Friday with five more links--happy listening!

Madewell to Perfection

So...I try not to get too obsessed with shopping and thanks to the best little place, I find most of my clothes on consignment. However, there is one store/website that KILLS ME. Is it possible for one place to produce basically every piece of clothing I would ever want need like LOVE?!?

Latest looks I am loving from Madewell....le sigh....

All I can say is...THANK GOD we don't have one of these in Louisville...I would be completely broke/even more tortured.

Find all these looks here.

Props Madewell....well played.

life is better with...probably the most adorable jewelry ever

Eggplant & Leek necklace!

Macaron rings!

 Avocado earrings!

And why wouldn't you want 1/12 scale version of this cake?!?

I'm absolutely dying over these adorable miniatures from Israeli artist Shay Aaron. I am always a sucker for anything miniature, but jewelry & food combined! I'm sold!

Pain Au Chocolat!

Go check out his Etsy site!

Derby time and a new "Voice" in Town

Well, it's almost officially Derby season I think...

For the first time in 9 years I will get to see all the festivities--so excited!

My pal Danielle over at Lou What Wear gave me the heads up on the brand new magazine from weekly newspaper, The Voice-Tribune of Louisville.  A guide to all things Derby, which I am sure I'll need. Andrew and I kinda want to get into it since it's our first year back.

I'm loving the hat on this cover girl...does this mean that Kentucky ladies are going to start looking to the Royal Wedding for headwear inspiration for May 5th?!? LET'S HOPE SO!

Where do I even begin?!? Do I need a hat?! A fancy dress?!
