31 things on my 31st birthday

Here are 31 things that are on my internet and in my brain right now. Happy birthday to me!

1. It's officially Smartwool wearing, kettle corn eating, bourbon drinking, reading season!

2. Currently reading Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh.

3. This song. Again and again:

4. Feeling super inspired and accomplished in both my yoga practice and my yoga teaching lately. Special thanks to Christina Sell for her online classes. They are so great--She's one of my favorite teachers ever.

5. Turning 31 today and I am listening to the new Justin Bieber album on repeat.  You can laugh, but it's pretty great.

6. Love this photo from Joy Wilson's Instagram. That's really the one drawback to short hair...my hat game is pretty much non-existent.

7. It's gift guide season! I live for goop's annual holiday gift guide. My favorite items this year include a $260 wool unitard and an automatic nut milk maker..HA! You can't make this crap up.

8. Thanks Terry and Kayla. I just lost a good 20 minutes watching all the Tasty recipe videos. Hypnotic!

9. Instagram fatigue. I think I have it....bad!

10. He's back! I love this guy so much. I would love to see one of these in person.

11. We almost did this while we were out in Utah, but you know, we just couldn't find the time. Yeah right!

12. Home Alone gifs.

13. I'm going to make my first batch of glögg soon. Yay.

14. We can rest easy, Carly Simon was talking about Dick Tracy.

15. The world seems to be very volatile right now. I'll just be here, doing this.

16. I am now in possession of a spiralizer! Let's do it! Thanks Suzie & Phil!

17. The One Part podcast. I miss it right now, but hey, Jessica's too busy writing that cookbook, so I wh

18. A Christmas Story gifs

19. A short story vending machine. Need I say more?

20. Still going strong with BOB (black on bottom). Makes my life easier when getting ready for work. However, it has only encouraged a slight shoe obsession.

21. I'm only two books away from my 2015 goal...all other resolutions already finished!

22. That reminds me, this year went insanely fast. Yes, I know it's cliche to say that, but HONESTLY.

23. Headed out later today for a yoga class and celebration at Orbis Yoga in Louisville. I'm planning to take some photos and share later this week. It is closing its doors after forty-one years.

24. Just discovered Sarah Close's YouTube channel. Amazing covers! Can we get on Spotify pretty please?! I could use you for yoga playlists!

25. This song has been on repeat for the past two months...in my car, in my house, during my yoga classes, at the library, in my headphones. Not sure why.

26. I had intentions in 2015. I feel like I stuck with them!

27. This is why JGL is my dream man. I love that I woke up this morning with this in an email from my Mom with the subject heading, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  And apparently, more people feel just the way that I do.

28. I've designed a tote bag. It took about 30 seconds. I'd like to sit on a street corner and distribute them for free. I also need one for myself.

29. Elf gifs

30. This guy doing this dance.

31. And finally...it would really stink to be this guy. Stay strong!

Well, there you have it. I think I'll go watch 50/50 now. #jgl

friday

Processed with VSCOcam Oh....that thing when you find ridiculously gorgeous photos of where you used to live...Norway, you'll always be Christmas for me. That was a tough Christmas away from home--Andrew and I's first together--all alone in a country where we knew no one, didn't speak the language, and it was only light out for a few hours a day. Yeah, that's a beautiful sunset...at 2:00pm! Busy weekend ahead. I still have some shopping to do, teaching, book club on Saturday, and then a fun morning at lululemon on Sunday. If you're into yoga and a local reader, I encourage you to check out this event! Hope to see you there! Have a good one.

friday

old-historic-photos-58__605 thank goodness.

yeah, that's people painting the Eiffel Tower. WHHHAAA? Found it in this amazing post of 40 rare, historical photos.

It's been a long crazy week. Ready to relax. We're getting all holiday this weekend...I'm making glogg, Andrew's making caramels, and we're going to do a purging of stuff at the house.

Was so happy to see All Songs Considered's Year in Music discussion up in my podcast feed this morning. Listen now!

Oh Pinterest...I kind of have a love/hate relationship with you. Do I think you're a wonderful source of inspiration and an easy way to share content?

Yes.

Do I think you've replaced magazines so that women (mostly) now have an instant, free way to feel incredibly inadequate on a daily basis?

Kinda.

Yep, Pinterest must be approached with a healthy dose of "I'm fine!" Here are my favorite accounts, mostly because they just post such beautiful photos of all kinds.

There are many more, but like many other posts this month, this is a day late! I need to get it together on my own challenge!

Synchronicity in my daily life? There's a lot and I love it. Not a lot more I have to say about that at the moment...

It seemed like a good post idea at the time...

More later...

Just being honest...

Have a good weekend!

I love Instagram. Because I've already mentioned my favorite yoga accounts, I'm going to keep them off this list.

@jenisicecreams10731592_195609530631141_1999003506_n Ok, so Louisville has a full size lululemon now. We have Anthropologie, Madewell, Lush, and Lucky's Market. We've even got a Mellow Mushroom. I don't care about any of that until we get a Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. Their Instagram is beautiful, mouth-watering, and fascinating. Their website is also super pretty.

@iamlauramiller10748353_893092700708368_1932848964_n Laura Miller has a crazy voice, which you can hear on her videos, Raw, Vegan, Not Gross. But she also does daily portraits with produce.

@deanthebasset 10755857_1007950189231091_2095996751_n The cutest feed you'll ever see. The daily adventures of a basset hound that was born several months ago.

The prettiest cookies you'll ever see.

@caroline_joy10661199_700952873329999_722003937_n Not a huge fan of fashion blog Instagram feeds that make everything look picture perfect all the time, but this one does it so well it gets my respect. Even better, she shows some of the behind the scenes stuff about how they get such perfect photos.

So there you have it. Of course there are many more, but that's a good variety for now. Can't believe how quick this November challenge is going! We're almost halfway done!

10616813_722401617839782_387539500_n Oops. Forgot to post yesterday.

Well, I can't really say I forgot...I just didn't. I had a wonderful weekend and yesterday was on a total roll "spring cleaning" the studio. Got out ladders, changed light bulbs, cleaned out drawers, etc. While cleaning, I found an official Olympic torch from the 2002 games in Salt Lake City...rolled up in a towel...

It has been there on the back counter for a few weeks and I figured it was something of Dad's...which it is, he's a making a case for it for a client. However, it was pretty funny to finally look in there and find it!

I'll be back later with today's theme--if I could live anywhere!

a few days at the beach

photo Thought I'd share some photos from our trip to Edisto Island, SC earlier this week. My family has been renting beach houses there since I was a kid. We all agree that we must have a house right on the beach and it must have wifi. Ha.

My parents, Kaylex and baby Graham, Andrew, and Lis all body surfing by day, doing jigsaw puzzles and iPad-ing by night. It was great fun and we even managed to fit in a trip to Tupelo Honey on our way back. Perfect.

c84bac94bdb5b573b0688d0c1bb322ddBird of paradise! I saw the above photo for the first time way back when Pinterest first got going. It's been making the rounds ever since. It's amazing. So amazing I had to get out my paint and turn it into a little project last year

Bird of paradise is one of those poses that looks insane, but is actually somewhat accessible...it just may never look like that. HA!

This photo was taken June 2013...haven't snapped a recent one of my BOP in awhile, curious to see my progress. I try to practice it almost every day. But then again, I love to balance on one leg and most don't so, you know. Do what you want!

Again, Ekhart Yoga comes through with a free 10 minute sequence to get you there.

I also discovered Stacey Welu and her YouTube series, Asana Diagnostics. AMAZING tricks and tips!

August 2014

  2014-08-08_1407529107

Whoa. This month really took it out of me. It was crazy!

I apologize ahead of time...my instagram photos this month are basically all house pictures. It still doesn't feel real. Andrew and I were saying to each other last night that it feels like we're house sitting or staying in a hotel. It just hasn't sunk in that this is our house.

1. I don't recommend moving during the first week back of work at a school, while your yoga studio is seeing a major boom in attendance. It brings about insane behavior.

2. If you do have to do this, it does help to blast this power anthem on the way to work.

3. We're all loving our official studio shirts. So fun! SO SOFT.

4. I ate a lot of chocolate chip cookies, mini drumsticks, and coconut chips this month. It was needed.

5. It seems that things are kind of falling apart around the world. If I'm being truly honest, August is always terrible. While tons of great things happened this month, every year it makes me lose it at some point. Not sure if it's the heat or the anticipation of fall or what, but every year I have a meltdown.

Well, I can only come up with five this month because I'm ready to MOVE ON. The first week of September brings this three day weekend and then next weekend we're headed to the beach for a few days. Much needed, can't wait.

heavy things

8d7f8feb73cd9308146785b71c578e1a Ugh.

Yesterday when scrolling through my podcast feeds I saw that Lauren Bacall died...on Tuesday. And I just found out on Saturday?!? What's going on!? Oh wait, I know, Robin Williams also died, things in the Middle East are insane, Michael Brown is dead and this is now going on.

Things are always in shambles, but lately it's a little bleak. On top of all this global sadness, our old boy Mr. Forrest/Bagel is having real trouble walking and seems to be in real pain every time we go to pick him up the past couple days. It's tough not to get down. All this puts things into perspective I suppose.

Here's a great little video from classic Sesame Street featuring Robin Williams. Thanks to Mom for sharing it originally. Hilarious, sweet, and appropriate for the times.

It's supposed to rain all day today. I'll be honest, I'm looking forward to staying inside hanging pictures and reading. Have a great Sunday everyone.

She brightens up my feed like no other! Follow, it's fun.

Sorry for absence on here... Got back from Asheville late last night, headed back for my first teacher day today. I'm ready to get back--I like the structure. I did skip my 5:30am yoga practice this morning...will get back on that wagon tomorrow.
